State Sponsored Life Insurance (SSLI)
The State Sponsored Life Insurance (SSLI) program offers group term life insurance exclusively for Army and Air National Guard members and their dependents, encouraging enlistment and retention in the National Guard under United States Public Law 93-289, enacted on May 24, 1974.
Administered by Armed Forces Benefit Association (AFBA) through 5Star Life Insurance Company, SSLI provides Basic and Enhanced coverage. Established in 1947 with the endorsement of General Dwight D. Eisenhower, AFBA supports military service members and their families in both peace and wartime. With over $15 billion in insurance coverage and more than $100 million paid in claims, AFBA ensures comprehensive life insurance protection without exclusions based on military specialty, combat, or war.
