Benefits of Joining the National Guard Association of Michigan
Pension from Michigan
Retirees with 20 good years of service in the Michigan National Guard receive $50 each month upon the age of 55. This is in addition to other military retirements. NGAM has continually advocated to increase the dollar amount and lower the age of reception.
Health Insurance
TRICARE health coverage is available for all members of the National Guard. This was a successful collaborative effort of all state National Guard Associations and the National Guard Association of the United States. Membership numbers are vital in convincing Congress that this was the right thing to do for our Guard and their families.
Life Insurance
Low-cost term life insurance is available to each member of NGAM. There are no restrictive clauses in the policy. Further, the payment to beneficiaries is made within two days to three days.
No-cost Life Insurance
$10,000 life insurance is available to each enlistee of the Michigan National Guard. This is a NO-COST benefit that is offered for the first year of enlistment. The Guardsman may elect to purchase a normal term insurance policy following the end of the first year of enlistment.
Special Mortgage Savings - Rocket Mortgage
As members of the National Guard Association of Michigan, you can take advantage of special mortgage savings from Rocket Mortgage®.
See website for details.
Tax-free Military Pay for AGR, Traditional and Retired Guardsmen
Michigan has been generous in dismissing Michigan income taxes on military pay. NGAM works with the Michigan Legislature to ensure this benefit continues. This amounts to between 3% and 7% in annual saving to members based upon income and tax bracket. This benefit alone makes up for the cost of a NGAM membership. Click here to join the association.
Veteran Support Grant
NGAM administers the Veteran Support Grant. This financial support grant is intended to assist Michigan veterans in need. Veterans, families of veterans, current members of NGAM and other Michigan residents currently serving in the military may be eligible for a grant.
